Open data standards have been crucial to successful collaborations in virtual patient development. OpenLabyrinth has long embraced the ANSI Medbiq Virtual Patient standard in its case structure.
The platform continues to be based on both open-standards data and open-source code. We are currently developing a new and improved framework architecture that supports a modular approach, plug-ins and external APIs.
OpenLabyrinth has moved beyond virtual patients and is now a powerful and extensible education research platform. It now supports xAPI and LTI data-interchange, external widgets (such as H5P), while still remaining true to older formats that support case exchange between collaborating teams.
